Overview:
For this project, we were given the task to create a school chemistry curriculum that would meet the standard for a 5th grade class to use. We were given the information that for 5th grade students, they learn chemistry for 5 weeks 2 times a week for about and hour each day. With this information we were tasked to come up with around ten activities, labs, or lessons to fulfill the time for ten days of class. To do this, we decided to look up the California state standard for what 5th grade students need to learn in their chemistry classes so we could accomplish the standards in our curriculum. After finding the standards, we decided to come up with a lab, activity, or lesson for each standard and were able to fit it into a curriculum of ten days. We also decided to make them fun and hands on so that the students would be more likely to pay attention and enjoy science. Below are the California standards and our lab, activity, or lesson for each one. Below that is our power point presentation for the project.

Reflection:
After finishing the project, we realized we had accomplished a lot for the amount of time we were given especially since we finished the project on time. We were able to create a whole 5th grade chemistry curriculum, based on the state standards, that would engage the kids and promote a love of science in children at a young age. We reinforced our curriculum with 5 fun labs, 3 activities, and 1 teacher demo of a chemical reaction. My group equally collaborated when working on this project as we split up the California standards and each of us came up with a lab, activity, or demo for some of the standards to maximize our use of the time we were given in class. While working on this project, I learned what goes into creating a school curriculum as everything has to fall within standards, number of class periods, and the amount of time spent in the classroom. I now understand how much work it is to balance everything out to incorporate all the activities you want to do and still make sure the kids learn everything they need to know. I think this project went very well as we were able to create an appropriate curriculum for a 5th grade chemistry class while fitting the amount of time allotted for class.
