Procedure:
For our project we were given the task to create a movie and have special effects in it created with chemistry concepts. The first thing we did was brainstorm on ideas of special effects we would want to have in our movie. After coming up with many ideas and getting some shot down since they may be to dangerous, we based a story line around the effects we created. We decided that the easiest way to depict our special effects would be in a fight scene where they could actually make sense based on the plot of the movie. We then decided our group roles to have some people create the reactions while the others filmed the fight scene. We used 3 different reactions for our special effects including: Flaming Bubbles, Cornstarch and Water, and Dry Ice.

Chemistry Concepts:
Our 1st reaction was the Flaming Bubbles. We create the flaming bubbles by first filling up a beaker with dish soap and water. We then take a hose connected to a gas line and put it in the bottom of the beaker. When we turn it on the gas rises and creates bubbles filled with gas. When we put a lighter to it then causing the casing around the bubble to pop releasing the gas to the flame creating a large flame chain reaction.
Our 2nd reaction was Cornstarch and Water. We made this by adding cornstarch to a beaker then adding an equal portion of water. after we mixed the reaction, It becomes a solid upon quick force and a liquid when applying slow force. We used this to create an effect of my foot hitting the solution as a solid and sinking in as it stays there.
Our 3rd reaction was using Dry Ice. To make the effect of fog from the dry ice, we filled a beaker with water and put a chunk of dry ice in it. The dry ice sublimates when we put it in. At our atmospheric pressure the ice goes straight form a solid to gas but if put under the right amount of pressure it will then turn to water. We used this fog effect to exaggerate Griffin bringing out the trap from the ground.
The first and third effects we taped over a black screen and inserted them into the actual film.

Reflection:
I think this was a very fun project and that my group worked well together. We had a little trouble with our time management and got off track every now and then but we completed the project with a video we were proud of. We did have one big struggle in our group, that none of us could come up with a solid idea for our video so we probably spent too much time discussing what effects we wanted, how we would implement them, and how they would actually fit into the story. Since it took us so much time to plan out our idea we lost valuable filming and editing time but still managed to get the majority of our filming done in one day and editing the video over the weekend. Besides our time problems, we worked together very well to come out with a finished product in time for the presentations. If we were to do this project again, I think we could have worked on our time management but besides that we didn't really have any other flaws in our group.
